Education is a basic human right. Yet in Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere, devastating poverty has made this basic human right a privilege. Education is out of reach for many poor Haitian families.
Education is one of the greatest tools to help break the cycle of poverty. Studies have shown that children who go to school are healthier, better nourished, and live longer and more prosperous lives than those who don't. When children attend school they become aware of their own potential in the world and their community and are better equipped with the life skills necessary to make informed choices.
